LEARNING THE BASICS
This series of one-hour workshops will introduce you to the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation as a foundation for attending our weekly mindfulness meditation classes. The purpose is to prepare practitioners with the basics of sitting meditation, including posture, breathing, mindset, and the different modes of mindfulness practice, including concentration on breath, conscious awareness, visualization, movement, and sound.

If you have dabbled with mindfulness meditation, and are ready to go deeper, you’ll need some instruction. Mastering any skill, mental or physical, takes learning and practice. Humans have taught and practiced mindfulness meditation for millennia, so the techniques and tools that work best for us today have become clear.

SUBJECTS COVERED
These foundational workshops, combined with weekly classes, are the perfect way to get started. These workshops will cover three main foundational subjects:

1. Why practice mindfulness meditation – the historical basis for mindfulness meditation, methods, goals, and results.

2. Physical elements of mindfulness meditation – bodily awareness, posture, breath, sounds, stillness, and movement.

3. Mental aspects of mindfulness meditation – Internal and external mind, conscious and unconscious factors.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• This is a Zoom video streaming workshop
• You need a laptop, smartphone or other WIFI enabled device with speakers
• Preferably attend in a quiet room
• You need a firm cushion for sitting
• Place the cushion on a soft surface such as a carpet, Yoga mat or blanket
• You may also practice in a chair that allows you to keep your back straight and your feet firmly on the floor
